QUICK cheap meal under $5

Looking for another quick cheap meal under $5? Well here we go, this time we’re making a chicken flavored rice and pasta blend from Knorr. To that I’m making a couple of tilapia fillets and and avocado. Sounds good? Then let’s go.

So the rice and pasta blend is pretty simple to make, take 2 cups of water and a tablespoon of butter, margarine, or whatever you have. If you don’t want no need to add any. Bring everything to a boil then lower to a simmer until ready.

Now for the tilapia, there’s a bit of a debate on it’s healthiness or unhealthiness. Normally I eat salmon or tuna, but occasionally I’ll make some tilapia. Now before you kill me when I tell you where I got it from (this is not the first time getting it), I have to honestly say it’s not bad. With that being said, I picked these up at Dollar Tree (or 1.25 tree).

Wash and season to your preference then heat up a skillet, put some margarine and fry/simmer. I say fry/simmer because I sear (kinda) one side then flip, lower the flame and cover for about 5 minutes.

And that’s pretty much it, I add an avocado on the side and DINNER is served. Quick, easy and cheap.

  • Tilapia: $1.25 (DT)
  • Rice & Pasta Blend: 1.25 (DT)
  • Avocado: 1.25 (4/$5 on sale)
    TOTAL: $3.75
